The hypotheticals shrouding AI are drastic. As another technological revolution speeds down the highway, even the brightest of humanity’s headlights don’t pierce far through the misty future. Somewhere deep in the frightening blackness is our fate, yet the answer to what lays beyond is locked in a safe as time selfishly hoards the key.
Currently I am working on a project spanning several blogs to sketch out the current landscape of AI (as of March 2026) from my view point, of course!
These have been linked in the order they are "supposed" to be read in, but it's a free world and nothing is stopping you from reading out of order!
Here I will be outlining the basics of the technology of LLMs, a brief history of the technology and the possibilities of the future of the technology can go. I also go into who this affects, and how. This will be non-technical, and go over what the terms AI and LLM actually means, the realisation of the size of training datasets, the birth of the Transformer architecture, the rapid improvement of AI in the past few years, and the diminishing rate of improvement we are starting to see.
The economics of AI has two sides. The economics of these companies creating and training their LLMs, and the economics of the average person. Many anticipate to be financially ragdolled as LLM reasoning is expected to grow in adoption and consequently play a much larger role in the various processes and jobs needed in the upkeep of society. Is this fear justified? Both sides will be explained in this blog. I will go over how non of these large companies are profitable, how they plan to fix that, the astronomical valuation of these companies, the fears of an AI bubble, as well as what is expected to happen to the average person.
It's no secret that the training of LLMs has a negative impact on the environment. I'll be going over why exactly that is, why people using LLMs isn't as impactful for the environment as some may think, how worried we should be for its future impact on the environment, and even the effects data centers have on the local communities where they are built.
Here I will be listing what AI has been used for in the past, what it is currently being used for with it's widespread and what we speculate it will be used for in the future!
Fears of robots taking over the world has been present in sci-fi long before the AI boom. Now, people fear humanity is now genuinely at threat, and even influential leaders in the AI space are cautious of the dangers this technology could cause. AI alignment, which is getting these LLMs to be aligned with humans in their goals, is essential for the saftey of mankind and for getting the most out of AI that we can. Here I will be discussing how AI can be mis-aligned, the trajectory we are on at the moment and what we need to do to ensure that AI stays aligned!
West vs East, US vs China. The big race to AGI. What is AGI and why are we racing to it? Who is "winning"? Who is predicted to "win"? What's the prize for "winning"? More generally, how is AI development and adoption spreading around the world, and how does adopting AI impact any given country? What is the gain in other countries adopting your country's model? I'll answer all these questions in this blog.
There are few problems as polarising as AI. It's no surprise given how wide ranging and quickly it's adoption is and is expected to be. There are lots of big questions, such as: Are we headed for extinction? What is the mental impact of relying on AI, especially growing up? Are people relying more and more on socialising, and will society lose its social skills? What are it's effects on mental health? What about the issues that can arise from AI getting things wrong? And many more. The politics of AI is huge. Also, how positively people feel about the development of AI is an extremely mixed bag, with a lot feeling extremely negative about it. Why is that, and is that a fair reaction to AI? I will be covering these topics in this blog.
After seeing lots of different angles on the topic of AI, I've written a summary of a takeaway. When we take it all into account, this is the conclusion I personally take away from all of this. Also, if you don't want to read all the blogs above and want to get the jist, this post does that too!
